Hard to believe they are working on it. Normally they just close the trail indefinitely and steer the extra money to more popular outdoor activities... like bird watching.

Not really true. Normally if something happens the DNR & clubs do what they can to get a trail back open if at all possible. The problem comes in when there are procedures to be followed, ie: in this case engineering. Now I would just order a big steel I beam jack the bridge toss it in there and open it back up , but liability and the DNR engineers would say that can't really be done.

You have to look at things like the BIG washout down by Indian River last month, they got that repaired and the trail is back open. They are also putting temporary bridge over a bad one down in Cheboygan for the season.

Where you see trail closures is mostly due to losing leases and such, although if a bridge issue develops they do have to do some sort of engineering study to see what needs to be done to replace it.

Yeah they monkeyed around with the bridge at Millersburg a couple years before the repairs were completed this past year.

At least the re-route for the trail wasn't too bad.
