![]() Finally getting the tippy bridge replaced. Trail closed between Brevort & Cut River:
June 9, 2017 Contact: Paul Gaberdiel, 906-235-9650 Replacement project to close bridge that services Prout Road and Snowmobile Trail No. 473 The Michigan Department of Natural Resources today announced that the bridge that services both State Forest Prout Road and Snowmobile Trail No. 473, which is used by a multitude of forest users throughout the summer, will be closed for replacement beginning today. The bridge provides access over a feeder stream to the Cut River, located at T42N, R6W, Section 6, in Mackinac County. The new structure is estimated to open in mid-July. The current bridge structure has been deteriorating and has caused ongoing erosion into the stream. The new structure will be safer for users and reduce sedimentation into the stream. During the project, users can utilize Cut River Road as an alternate route. Grant funding from the Recreation Trail Program, ORV Trail Improvement Fund and Snowmobile Trail Improvement Fund was used for this project. Funds derived from the sale of ORV and snowmobile licenses and permits are reinvested back into their respective programs through a grant program. Visit www.michigan.gov/dnrclosures to learn about additional closures and trail detours in DNR facilities, including state trails, boat launches, parks and campgrounds. Information on intermittent closures may not be posted. For more information, contact Paul Gaberdiel, recreation trails specialist for the DNR, at 906-235-9650 or gaberdielp@michigan.gov or visit www.michigan.gov/dnrtrails. /Editor's note: An accompanying map is available below for download./ ProutRoadClosure.map.jpg

![]() They were going to use one of those temporary bridges that have been used successfully around. Except, I did the research, and for within 10% of the same cost, recommended that they install a concrete box culvert, with gravel road overtop. Next winter, you will probably only see a short section of guardrail along there - no more bridge to worry about.

![]() You need a couple of these. Outside dimensions 14 wide, 6 high, 4 front to back. 23,000 lbs. each. We're doing a job that is using 158 of these. Culvert is 700 ft. long. Using a BIG excavator to set them.

![]() Haven't heard from DNR yet, but I guess they are all done.
Looks like they went with a small width then I thought they were. Guess the engineer knows what he is doing. Bobby was pretty excited to see today and sent these pics in
